about

Babe of Babylon is the new single off Boom Years EP "Beaming" coming out on March 5. Through details of insurance bills, funeral suits, and texts from mom, Jon Wilder (Boom Years) recounts the unease of seeing your friends have babies and buy houses while you're left feeling the same age for decades. Over vibrating synths and swelling drums, a refrain of "I'm black sheep number one" holds an awareness of struggling to keep up while remaining at peace with the position you're in.

lyrics

Time was giving
me shadows of a breakdown
I should really build my credit
start those baby blues

I was writing
a note about the new house
Seems the families keeping local
but I can’t stand the view

We weren't ready
for moments of a real life
Should I really keep her collar
after we put her down

Mom was sending
me pictures of a white gown
She came from such a small town

And I’m black sheep number one
No daughter and no son
To love me when I’m gone

Good morning son hope you're okay
Saw your picture yesterday
A beach when you were twenty three

Saw your future in the past
We were tan and laughing like a fool
I see myself in you

And I’m black sheep number one
No lambs out on the lawn
Our family line is gone

I'm the babe of Babylon
No father to a son
A life to lead along
